Matthew Morrison, star of the Fox hit series “Glee,” will be the headlining performer on March 1, 2014, at the Denver Center’s 34th annual Saturday Night Alive Fundraiser, it was announced tonight at the Four Seasons hotel in downtown Denver. But before all you Gleeks get too worked up about Mr. Schuester’s forthcoming appearance here in Denver, you should know that this particular party is the primary fundraiser each year for the Denver Center’s theatre education programs. The 2013 Saturday Night Alive raised $630,000 in one night in support of programs that benefit more than 50,000 children in the metro area.Which is why a ticket starts at $400. (Of that, $275 is tax-deductable.)”Saturday Night Alive” is a black-tie evening that features dinner, dancing a silent auction with more than 100 luxury items, and, of course, a private concert featuring Morrison for a capacity crowd of 740 in the Stage Theatre.Gleeks know the Emmy, Tony, and Golden Globe-nominated star through his role as the perpetually optimistic high-school teacher on “Glee,” but Broadway Babies knew him long before that from “Footloose,” “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” “Hairspray,” “The Light In The Piazza” and “South Pacific.”It will come as no surprise to his fans that Morrison says of himself, “At the end of the day, I’m a song and dance man.”The first artist Adam Levine, frontman for the band Maroon Five, signed to his new 222 Records label was Morrison.Morrison’s new album, “Where it All Began,” is a collection of re-imagined standards, many first made famous in Broadway musicals. And that’s what fans should expect from his appearance in Denver. There’s a “West Side Story” medley and a new take on “Younger Than Springtime” from “South Pacific.” Morrison even recorded a funkified “Luck Be A Lady” from “Guys and Dolls” at Capitol Studios, where Frank Sinatra recorded that and many other songs.”Glee” just returned to the air for its fifth season. The show’s tribute to actor Cory Monteith, who died of a drug overdose in July, on Oct. 10.For tickets to the 2014 Saturday Night Alive gala, call 303-446-4815.The Denver Center for the Performing Arts is a community sponsored, non-profit arts organization.Source
